Shockwave Therapy
- A non-invasive and non-surgical approach to relieving chronic conditions.
- Shockwave Therapy involves running a small hand-held machine over the affected area, sending transient acoustic waves to interact with tissue, resulting in accelerated tissue repair and cell growth, analgesia and mobility restoration.
- A thorough assessment must be performed by our physiotherapist to determine if Shockwave Therapy is a suitable treatment for your condition.
- How it works (3 steps): The therapist locates the area to be treated through palpation, a gel is applied to help the acoustic waves get to the right spot, and the a Shockwave applicator (a small hand-held machine) is slightly pushed against the area to be treated.
- For the treatment to be effective, a course of 3-5 sessions may be recommended.
Shockwave Therapy is commonly used to treat the following conditions or injuries:
- Calcific Tendinopathy (Shoulder)
- Tennis or Golfer’s Elbow
- Jumper’s knee
- Heel spur
- Chronic Tendinopathy (Achilles)
- Hip pain
